- Traditional “Tatsugou” Patterned Oshima Tsumugi Silk from Amami Oshima Island
Tatsugou(龍郷) pattern is well-known for the representative traditional pattern of Oshima tsumugi.
It’s the abstraction of the privileges of nature on the island of Amami Oshima, and the basic motifs used are Sago palm’s leaves and habu snake’s scales. The name “Tatsugou” is derived from Tatsugou village where is one of the biggest weaving region of Oshima tsumugi.
Its adventurous design gives audacious and unforgettable impression.
It is very unique pattern only seen in Amami oshima unlike any other weaving region, which express the one and only nature of Amami Oshima.
Sago palm’ leaves. It is also used for a dyeing material of Oshima tsumugi.
The sequence of Sago palm’s leaves pattern is carefully crafted and woven by kasuri ikat technique.
The tropical flowers are designed along with Sago palm’s leaves.
