- Shimoi Tsumugi | Striped Diamond Twill Weave
In Iida city,Nagano prefecture, a senshoku (deying & weaving) artist Shimoi Nobuhiko produces “Shimoi tsumugi”. He had originally worked at the place of Western textile design, and using his experience and modern sense, his kimono textiles surpasses others in originality, a fusion of innovation and tradition.
Three of the textiles are his newly-weaved products.
These are beautiful pastel-colored, white based kimono textiles. Although it is named with “tsumugi”, it made of not tsumugi yarns, but reeled silk. The textiles are twill weaving, creating sophisticated diamond twill (marumanako) patterns, which are very elegant.
The dyeing are done mainly by natural vegetations, yet partially chemical-dyeing are added in order to balance and stabilize the coloration.
