Tanba-fu is a traditional homespun cotton fabric made in Aogaki, Tanba, Hyogo pref. Once the old cotton textile tradition had cut off for a while, but a leading figure of the Mingei Japanese folk art movement, Yanagi Sōetsu (1889–1961) and a textile researcher, Uemura Rokurou (1894-1991) revived the tradition with the locals.

Tanba-fu uses all handspun cotton for warp and weft, at the same time, uses a silk handspun yarns at certain intervals for weft.

Tanba-fu tradition was revived by following the old documents and the memories of the locals, and all the processes are completely traditional and by manual labor including hand-spinning, organic dyeing and handweaving.

We stock Tanba-fu monthly and most of them are woven for obi (kimono belt).
